Chain Driven Zoned Accumulation Conveyors
The CDZA Model conveyor is a zero pressure (products don’t touch), chain driven live roller conveyor. It can be built in 1.9” dia., 2.5” dia., and 2.62” dia. roller sizes to satisfy the load and width requirements. The conveyor is designed to accumulate loads such as large packages, pallets, drums, and containers, with no back pressure. These units can be equipped with integral zone control logic for easy setup of cascade or slug release modes. Alternately they can be controlled via PLC.
A steel billet processing/machining company is using a LEWCO CDZA26 Chain Driven Roller Zero Pressure Accumulation Conveyor as a buffer between work cells. To save floor space, two such conveyors are arranged in an over-under configuration. Three parts (up to 2100 lbs. total) are manually loaded on an empty steel pallet at one end with a jib crane, and accumulated (without touching) in zones prior to the next work cell.
At the end of the conveyor the parts are unloaded by robot, one at a time, for processing. The empty pallets are lowered on a scissor lift, and returned to the beginning of the line on the lower level conveyor for reloading. Each level has a single motor to drive the conveyor. Individual zones are engaged by air clutch to move the pallets forward to the next empty zone.
LEWCO shop mounted and wired the zone sensors, and plumbed the clutches to customer specified pneumatic valve banks.
