LEWCO E-Commerce Parcel Distribution System
LEWCO recently provided an integrator with a series of conveyors from our LEWCO RED line which is specifically designed for the Retail E-commerce Distribution industries.
These units are part of an automated hub for a popular parcel handling service where packages are routed through a complex system of conveyors for the purpose of sorting and distribution.
To assist in the package unload and transportation from a general merchandise trailer, LEWCO provided four (4) belt conveyors and two (2) Belt Driven Live Roller units that carry packages from an extendable unit and transports them to the primary sort area.
The extendable unit feeds a short belt conveyor that is mounted on a structural support that incorporates a pivot mechanism. The support is intended to straddle the extendable unit moving below it while allowing the short unit to pivot down onto the unit when necessary. LEWCO utilized its nose roller design on the infeed end to allow for the small packages to be easily transferred onto the belt conveyor. This unit feeds a powered belt curve that was provided by another manufacturer.
After the curve, the first of our three welded parcel belt conveyors carries packages up a 12 degree incline at a rate of 250 feet per minute to the second level. At the end of this unit, we have two Belt Driven Live Roller Conveyors, one after the other. These BDLR19s provide a positively driven live roller conveyor that is suitable for loads up to 2,500 lbs. The 1.90 inch diameter rollers are spaced on 2 inch roller centers and incorporate 24 inch high guardrail on both sides to prevent packages from exiting the sides. The BDLR in the first position runs at a rate of 180 feet per minute and feeds the second BDLR set at 120 feet per minute.
The second welded parcel belt conveyor transports the parcels along the upper level for approximately 125 feet before they slide down a spiral chute onto our third welded parcel belt conveyor. This final unit has slowed the rate travel down to 100 feet per minute and dumps onto the existing primary sort conveyors.
The overall speed reduction of LEWCO’s conveyor’s from the first to the last is intended to bunch parcels together and eliminate gaps before introducing them into the system and were designed to transfer standard packages of various shapes and sizes.
LEWCO offers a quality product that is cost effective and built to the highest industry standards. Reduction in manual material handling, improved product flow, better ergonomics and elimination of shipping damage are just some of the benefits of a well-designed LEWCO conveyor system.
